New Horizons’ is a weekly 3- hour course designed for students who have some experience and understanding of the basic processes, techniques and
methods of drawing and painting, and would like to develop further their
individual approaches to making art.

T
he course will be partly structured with sessions designed for the participation of the whole group, which will include
life drawing and painting, portraiture, landscape work, still- life and revision sessions ( exercises in basic skills and techniques ). There will also be plenty of opportunity to experiment, explore new ideas and broaden your horizons.

A full programme with details for each week and materials requirements is given out at the start of each term.

I am also running two 3-day summer courses based at Stourhead, Wiltshire:

An exciting 3- day course exploring mark- making and gesture to build confidence and encourage a looser, free approach to painting.

Each day will start with structured drawing and painting exercises, followed by plenty of time to assimilate new ideas and apply them to individual approaches. You will also be encouraged to develop towards finished pieces of work.

‘Get Loose!’ is based in the well- equipped Stourton Memorial Hall ( just a stone’s throw from Stourhead Gardens and next door to the Spread Eagle Inn ). During the course, we will explore the possibilities offered by the landscape, gardens, buildings and lakes of Stourhead.

Students will be expected to provide materials and equipment including: Sketchbooks, pencils, charcoal, drawing paper, familiar painting materials and equipment,  drawing board, and equipment for outdoor work (ie: folding chair or stool and an easel if you have one). A full list of requirements will be sent with confirmation of booking
